The Feature-Length Documentary
on Raw Milk in the USA.

Shooting for this PBS-bound feature documentary began on an Amish farm in PA at the launch of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund on July 4, 2007. The film chronicles the story of raw milk, from the latter half of the 19th century to the present, tracing the parallel histories of raw and pasteurized milk to provide a grounded account of how raw milk came to be vilified as a food source and viable option for small farmers. Through the stories and insights of farmers, activists, regulators, physicians, nutritionists, bloggers and everyday consumers, the health benefits and actual dangers of raw milk are weighed in proportion to the safeguards in place under the current regulatory regime for all food in the USA. The film will resolve a vivid picture of the raw milk skirmishes engaging today on multiple fronts, and question whether the bodies charged with protecting the public health may be empowered to abuse that responsibility at the behest of forces threatened by the resurgence of a local, decentralized food system across America.
